ShiftPlus comparison

SnapState vs ShiftPlus: get your Mac back for $9.99.

Both apps save a workspace and put it back. SnapState does the restore job for less, and does it automatically after sleep or a monitor change.

Verdict: if you want your windows, Spaces, full screen apps and browser tabs back after sleep, a restart or a monitor change, buy SnapState. It is $9.99 once for up to three Macs. ShiftPlus Pro lists $24 for one Mac and $39 for two (shiftplus.app, checked October 2026).

What you get with SnapState

SnapState is a native macOS menu bar app that saves named workspaces. Each one keeps the windows on every Space with position and size, the apps needed to relaunch them, the display layout, full screen windows, and all open tabs in Safari, Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and Chromium once Automation permission is granted. Restore from the menu bar, with Control-Command-1 to 6, or automatically on wake from sleep, when a monitor connects or disconnects, or when a matching display layout appears.

Where ShiftPlus actually differs

ShiftPlus is a project launcher and workspace switcher built around one hotkey per workspace. It restores apps and windows to their saved Spaces across displays, and it adds launcher extras: opening a specific project file or folder in an app, a first command for Terminal, a chosen browser profile per workspace (including Firefox), app deep links such as a Slack channel, iCloud Sync of workspace configs, and a Raycast extension. It offers a 14-day trial and needs macOS 14.6 or later.

Per its own FAQ, ShiftPlus does not support Stage Manager, and full screen Spaces are captured but not put back into full screen on restore yet. Its site does not list wake-from-sleep or monitor-connect triggers. SnapState returns full screen windows to full screen and can restore on its own when you wake the Mac or plug in a display.

Which one should you pick?

Pick SnapState if your problem is the Mac scrambling your setup: windows piled onto one screen after sleep, apps on the wrong Space after a restart, or tabs gone after a reboot. Pick ShiftPlus if you mostly switch between many client projects and need per-project browser profiles or Terminal commands. For most people who just want things back where they left them, SnapState is less than half the price and covers three Macs.
